About Hungary

A Schengen country with central European prices and a long record of teaching medicine in English. Bangladesh is a Stipendium Hungaricum partner, so a set number of fully funded places are reserved for Bangladeshi students every year. Budapest has the most jobs; Debrecen, Szeged and Pécs are cheaper and home to the big medical schools.

English-only jobs are concentrated in Budapest's international service centres. Outside the capital, most work needs at least basic Hungarian.

Plan your budget as though you will earn nothing in the first two months. Finding a job takes longer than anyone expects, and a visa officer will not accept part-time income as proof of funds either.

Applying to Hungary

When to start

Work backwards from the intake month. Applications close roughly three months before, and the visa takes another six to twelve weeks after that. For a September intake, the sensible starting point is about six months earlier.
