About Malta

A small Mediterranean island inside the EU and Schengen, where English is an official language and distances are short enough that nowhere is far from campus. The online gaming and healthcare sectors are the big employers, which is why Gaming and Nursing feature so heavily among our students here.

What students usually do

  • Hospitality and bars
  • Retail
  • Food delivery
  • Care work

Every job needs an employment licence from Jobsplus before the first shift, and the licence is tied to that one employer. Changing jobs means a new application.

Plan your budget as though you will earn nothing in the first two months. Finding a job takes longer than anyone expects, and a visa officer will not accept part-time income as proof of funds either.

Applying to Malta

When to start

Work backwards from the intake month. Applications close roughly three months before, and the visa takes another six to twelve weeks after that. For a October intake, the sensible starting point is about six months earlier.
